Central-Upwind Schemes for Two-Layer Shallow Water Equations

چکیده
We derive a second-order semi-discrete central-upwind scheme for oneand two-dimensional systems of two-layer shallow water equations. We prove that the presented scheme is wellbalanced in the sense that stationary steady-state solutions are exactly preserved by the scheme, and positivity preserving, that is, the depth of each fluid layer is guaranteed to be nonnegative. We also propose a new technique for the treatment of the nonconservative products describing the momentum exchange between the layers. The performance of the proposed method is illustrated on a number of numerical examples, in which we successfully capture (quasi) steady-state solutions and propagating interfaces. Central-Upwind Scheme for Shallow Water Equations with Discontinuous Bottom Topography
Finite-volume central-upwind schemes for shallow water equations were proposed in [A. Kurganov and G. Petrova, Commun. Math. Sci., 5 (2007), 133–160]. These schemes are capable of maintaining “lake-at-rest” steady states and preserving the positivity of the computed water depth. The well-balanced and positivity preserving features of the central-upwind schemes are achieved, in particular, by us...
متن کاملCentral-Upwind Scheme on Triangular Grids for the Saint-Venant System of Shallow Water Equations
We consider a novel second-order central-upwind scheme for the Saint-Venant system of shallow water equations on triangular grids which was originally introduced in [3] . Here, in several numerical experiments we demonstrate accuracy, high resolution and robustness of the proposed method.
متن کاملThe comparison of two high-order semi-discrete central schemes for solving hyperbolic conservation laws
This work presents two high-order, semi-discrete, central-upwind schemes for computing approximate solutions of 1D systems of conservation laws. We propose a central weighted essentially non-oscillatory (CWENO) reconstruction, also we apply a fourth-order reconstruction proposed by Peer et al., and afterwards, we combine these reconstructions with a semi-discrete central-upwind numerical flux ...
متن کاملAIAA 2001–2623 Multi-Dimensional Upwind Constrained Transport on Unstructured Grids for ‘Shallow Water’ Magnetohydrodynamics
Novel Multi-dimensional Upwind Constrained Transport (MUCT) schemes on un-structured triangular grids are described. Constrained Transport (CT) discretizations conserve the divergence-free nature of divergence-free vector fields on the discrete level. Multi-dimensional Upwind (MU) schemes generalize the concept of dimensionally split upwind schemes for hyperbolic systems to truly multidimension...
متن کاملThe numerical treatment of wet/dry fronts in shallow flows: application to one-layer and two-layer systems
Abstract--This paper deals with the numerical difficulties related to the appearance of the socalled wet /dry fronts tha t may occur during the simulation of free-surface waves in shallow fluids and internal waves in stratified fluids composed by two shallow layers of immiscible liquids. In the one-layer case, the fluid is supposed to be governed by the shallow water equations. In the case of t...
